Step Up And Pay The Price (Part 2)

This is continued from last weeks blog. Please read last week's before this one.

There is a price to pay for good health...

And a price for sickness and disease.

I have been guilty of this. I was so focused on work during my first ten years in business that I hardly worked out. Lunch was usually fast food. Even though I was always active before I started my own business - from martial arts to running - it all was forgotten because I was sooo focused on work. I believe that my energy and performance suffered because of this (though I did not realize it at the time).

One day, a close relative who was in her early 50's was at her office and poof! - she had a stroke. Suddenly her life changed. It dawned on me:

If you are dead, all the goals don't mean a thing!!! First and foremost, you have to be alive and healthy enough to achieve and enjoy the fruits of your labour. It IS part of the job to eat right and exercise. This is a non-negotiable part of the success formula. Remember, life is NOT a sprint BUT a marathon.

So, nowadays I do something active 4 to 6 days a week. Everything from walking, cycling, working out with a personal trainer, yoga, or whatever is available to me at the time. I am also trying to watch what I eat  - its hard, but I try. This has allowed me to be more focused and energized for longer periods of time - business, after all, is like sports.  You have to condition yourself physically among other things.

Good health requires a commitment of time and effort. This is what most of the high performers that I meet have come to realize. Don't sacrifice this one. I look back and I wish I had invested the time and effort earlier. And the price for sickness and disease...I don't really have to tell you do I?

I will finish the rest of the poem on my next update.
In the meantime, someone who has opened my eyes to life once told me this: DON'T SWEAT THE PETTY STUFF AND DON'T PET THE SWEATY STUFF. Think about this as you are trying to carve out time for what's important. Every time I say these words to myself, it puts a smile on my face. :)
