Dreams and Father's Day
Most people never run far enough on their first wind to find out they've got a second. Give your dreams all you've got and you'll be amazed at the energy that comes out of you.
William James, Psychologist and Philosopher
More often than not, when I meet people from all walks of life and they talk about what they dream of in the future, I think of the phrase above. And I wonder why so many don't even make an attempt? Are they frozen in fear? Fear of failure, fear of other's opinion, fear of looking in the mirror and truly seeing who they are? (I wrote about fear - blog post July 10, 2011 Frozen In Fear)
Given that it is Father's Day, I would like to thank my dad for helping make me who I am.
- Dad, for the times that you woke me up early morning during a school week, told me to pack some gear, and took me hunting/fishing/trekking through raging rivers, oceans or jungles, (even though mom never knew that we risked our lives a few times) I thank you.
- For the times that you disciplined me for pushing the boundaries, and there are many, I thank you.
- For the responsibilities you foisted upon me at a young age, I thank you.
- For the sacrifices you have given for me, I thank you.
- For the dreams that you showed me are possible, I am forever grateful.
- You are a large part of who I am today and I, one day, hope to pass the lessons on.
