People And Authority
What do I mean?
As people are given more leadership, more responsibility, more title or stature - either they use the opportunity to learn, develop their skills, and grow as a person or they use the same opportunity as a way to lord over others. The prior is motivated by achievement and growth. The latter motivated by the need to feed the ego.
Once I sense that a person's head is swelling - I take it as a sign that they have hit their Peter Principle (Wikipedia: people tend to be given more authority until they cannot continue to work competently).
How can you see which one is which: One becomes more of a "servant leader" helping the team achieve. The other develops a "rockstar" identity.
Soooooooo, the next time someone offers you a leadership opportunity, TAKE IT !
Just make sure your head grows instead of swelling.
But then again, what do I know? I am just a guy making my way in this world.
PS. I have two topics in mind for next week - "The Leadership Void" or "Time Flies, It's Up To You To Be The Navigator". Send me a comment and let me know which one you would like to read about

Nice topic, could be linked to the notion of getting "power" generally speaking, some wise persons make it a real strength for them and people around, while others ruin their soul with proudness and end by "tcheating" on others and worth, on themselves...
Of course, it's not so simple, there's as many ways to react as there's humans! We could make pages and pages about this ( very interesting ) topic :)
About next topic, I'd prefer the "time file one" (no offense Hardy :) cause it "speaks to me" . No doubt I feel like a navigator, the point is to choose the good cape ;)
Best regards,
Charles.
